India at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

India at the 2008 Beijing Olympics

India will compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. A contingent of 57 athletes will represent India, and are supported by a support-staff of 42 officials. The athletic contingent is the largest, with 17 athletes.

For the first time since 1928, the Indian Men's Hockey Team will not be taking part in the Summer Olympics due to its failure to qualify. A two-year ban imposed by the International Weightlifting Federation after the 2006 Commonwealth Games doping scandal has resulted in only one Olympic weightlifter from India this time around.

The Competitors being sent to the sports mela are 57 in 13 sports

Let’s hope a higher medal tally record, my personal picks are:

Tennis

Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi (Men's Doubles)

Sania Mirza (Women's Singles)

Badminton

Saina Nehwal (Women's Singles)

Shooting

Abhinav Bindra (10 m Air Rifle Men)

Gagan Narang (10 m Air Rifle Men)

Smaresh Jung (10 m Air Pistol Men)

Manavjit Singh Sandhu (Trap Men)

Mansher Singh (Trap Men)

Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (Double Trap Men)

Anjali Bhagwat (50 m Rifle 3 Positions Women)
