HOW TO: Official Facebook Share Counters for Blogs

Content is king! No doubt, but having good content isn't the only way to become a pro-blogger. Promoting your content must be a topmost agenda of any blogger. So Facebook was quick to learn this little lesson and now the Official Facebook Share counters are rolled out. Last week I had shown you guys how to implement a third part Facebook Share Counter on your Blogs. But Now since the Official Share counter has appeared I would suggest you to use this alternative.

HOW TO: Official Facebook Share Counters for Blogs

The Looks of the Facebook share counter is pretty similar to Tweetmeme Twitter Retweet counter, and is pretty similar to the 9 Retweet counter Scripts I had blogged about last week. It also has a nomal version and Compact version making it easier for Bloggers to choose from.

Counter Style: Normal Above Button

<div style='float:left; margin-right:10px;'>
<a name="fb_share" type="box_count" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php">Share</a><script src="http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect.php/js/FB.Share" type="text/javascript"></script>
</div>

Counter Style: inline / Compact version

<div style='float:left; margin-right:10px;'>
<a name="fb_share" type="button_count" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php">Share</a><script src="http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect.php/js/FB.Share" type="text/javascript"></script>
</div>

How To use the Script:
Blogger Users Login to your Blogger Dashboard > Layout > Edit HTML > " Expand Widget Temaplates " Paste the code below <data:post.body/> tag in your template. Or you can choose to paste it wherever you prefer it to be.

When a user Shares your content, FB looks at your page to find a relevant title and image, and media if you specify it. You should add <meta> tags to your page to help us find this information. See the documentation for help with setting up these tags.

Facebook also provides an API to query data on shared items.

See the documentation for detailed information on Share and the API.

  1. Thanks for this. We ahve just added the facebook share counter (inline version) to the front page of our blog www.newslite.tv - but for some reason it doesn't line up with the tweetmeme one - any ideas why?
