OK Its official the Tweetmeme has a potential competitor now! Backtype releases a Tweetmeme Retweet Button and trust me I'm now changing my allies and heading towards backtype. Number 1 reason is it is powered by backtweets and you can search your tweets related to your blog post with ease.( update- It looks like tweetmeme also allows to change the source of the tweets). Hit the retweet button and try this out!!
For wordpress installation please scroll down.
For Blogger Installation follow the given procedure.
Please login into your Blogger Dashboard > Layout > Edit HTML and check the "Expand Widget Templates" option.
Now as a precautionary measure please download your template so that you have an emergency backup if in case you create any errors :)
Show the number of times your posts have been linked on Twitter and let readers retweet
This widget uses BackTypeConnect to find all the links your posts receive on Twitter. It shows the number of tweets your blog post has, and lets users retweet it with ease.
This is the simplest way to display this widget:
Firstly Locate this code in your blogger template.
<data:post.body/>
And then copy and paste the below code just above the data:post.body tag
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.backtype.com/tweetcount.js"></script>
You can also customise it using various parameters:
tweetcount_url | Current URL | The URL to measure tweets for |
---|---|---|
tweetcount_title | Title of current page | The title of the page for retweets |
tweetcount_src | Leading text for retweets | |
tweetcount_via | true | If tweets contain '(via @BackType)' |
tweetcount_links | false | If links should be opened in new windows |
tweetcount_size | "large" | Size of button ("large" or "small") |
tweetcount_background | Button background color (e.g. 'FFFFFF') | |
tweetcount_border | Button border color (e.g. 'CCCCCC') | |
tweetcount_api_key | Awe.sm API Key for custom URL shortener |
For example you can have a look at the code below
Instead of the above set of codes, paste the following for compact version.
<script type="text/javascript">
tweetcount_url = 'http://chethstudios.blogspot.com/2009/05/100-incredible-twitter-backgrounds.html/';
tweetcount_title = '100 Incredible Twitter Backgrounds';
tweetcount_src = 'RT @cheth:';
tweetcount_via = false;
tweetcount_links = true;
tweetcount_size = 'small';
tweetcount_background = 'FFFFFF';
tweetcount_border = 'CCCCCC';
tweetcount_api_key = '5c3bba3f5d77a46a13453091e36dc1cde4335e9299a1edeeaa3c31d193b33fda';
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://widgets.backtype.com/tweetcount.js"></script>

ReplyDeleteYeah I prefer RT @myusername than RT @tweetmeme.. and a nice as well easy to understand tutorial for blogger's blog and also for wordpress users *cheers* :D
ReplyDeleteLove this I will add it to my SEO blog and see what I think. Thanks for the article. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThere appear to be a lot of misunderstanding here in this post. I hope I can help clear some of that up for you. The tweetmeme button no longer includes via @tweetmeme or @tweetmeme just set your source in the button to your twitter account either in the wordpress settings area of the plugin or in the source code for the embedded button. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso TweetMeme and Backtype both work in the same way regarding looking at all URL's from Twitter search so in that sense there is no difference.
Let us know if there are any other features other than colour options that you want in TweetMeme in terms of both the website and the button! And keep an eye on http://blog.tweetmeme.com for the latest news and updates about our site and button!
@Sarah
ReplyDeleteI would ask you to read the tutorial properly. :) No misunderstandings as such. I think I edited the portion with an update yesterday saying that "( update- It looks like tweetmeme also allows to change the source of the tweets)" thanks for the comment I really appreciate the work behind tweetmeme!
Yea cheth Its in the 6th line maybe sarah didnt read that.
ReplyDeleteI like this new retweet button than tweetmeme i can change colors yay!!!! thanks chethstudios
ReplyDeletebest thing about backtype it counts all the tweets having the links. I sawa it a week ago and i liked it but i will still continue tweetmeme because of it's popularity
ReplyDeleteYea Gautam that is the only thing tweetmeme is lacking.. I too love tweetmeme.. but it started showing me button failed so i had to replace it with this one.
ReplyDeleteGood Tricks
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to get rid of @tweetmeme in twitter. How can I change this to my username??
ReplyDeleteThis is what I am doing at the moment.
tweetcount_src = 'RT @myusername:';
What do you use for the rest of the buttons at the bottom of your post?
ReplyDeleteuse this http://chethstudios.blogspot.com/2008/12/big-social-bookmarking-icon-widget-for.html
ReplyDeleteThank you!! This one worked for me, some tutorials never said to expand the widgets and I was having trouble finding the right code because of it.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciation!
I'm trying the Backtype button out but would like it to be hidden on pages. Any clue?
ReplyDeleteHi Johan, you can set the button location to manual and then echo backtype_tweetcount() anywhere in your template/theme that you want it displayed. See http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/backtype-tweetcount/faq for a bit more, or contact me at support [at] backtype if I can be of further assistance.
ReplyDeletebacktype is the best comment search engine which ever I found, cool. Nice info sharing, so informatif posting. Thank's..
ReplyDeleteIs there any RT button that does NOT count # of RTs. I had the tweetmeme button but it erased my count history to 0 when I changed to a custom blog domain. I rather just a retweet option for people without the count. Does this exist anywhere. Searched for an hour and came up with nothing.
ReplyDelete@Trudy
ReplyDeleteTry the button by Louisgray it doesn't show the # of retweets check out this page *
